VfL Bochum has achieved a breakthrough in the Bundesliga relegation battle. In the duel with newly promoted FC St. Pauli, the West Germans won 1-0 (0-0). Philipp Hofmann scored the goal of the day in the 67th minute.
Despite the success, Bochum remains in 18th and last place in the table. With now nine points, coach Dieter Hecking’s team has moved within two points of 17th place Holstein Kiel.
St. Pauli slipped to 15th place and, with 14 points, is now just one point ahead of 1. FC Heidenheim in relegation place 16th.
