Big stage for the superstar of the chess scene: Magnus Carlsen will appear on US media personality Joe Rogan’s podcast in a few weeks. His interviews are often highly controversial.

As German entrepreneur and founder of the “Freestyle Chess” organization, Jan Henric Buettner, explained to the Norwegian broadcaster “NRK”, chess superstar Magnus Carlsen will appear on the podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience” on February 19th.

“He will go to his studio in Texas,” said Buettner, whose statement was not initially confirmed by Carlsen management. There has also been no response from Joe Rogan and his team to “NRK’s” request.

Chess: Magnus Carlsen speaks to an audience of millions

The American Joe Rogan’s podcast is one of the most listened to in the world. The channel is followed by over 19 million people on YouTube alone. Rogan has almost 15 million followers on the audio platform Spotify. His podcast episodes usually reach seven-figure, sometimes eight-figure views.

However, the “Joe Rogan Experience” is not entirely without controversy. The 57-year-old often invites controversial guests who spread untruths and conspiracy theories in his interviews without being contradicted.

Carlsen’s chess career was not without controversy

Nevertheless, it is the American celebrities who are at the forefront of Rogan’s hand. Just a few weeks ago, Donald Trump and Elon Musk visited, as did Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg and Hollywood legend Mel Gibson a few days ago. Magnus Carlsen’s guest appearance is also on the program in a few weeks.

The Norwegian has also caused one or two controversies in his career. Above all, his fraud allegations against Hans Niemann made waves – and continue to do so to this day. Carlsen also made headlines at the World Rapid Chess Championship in New York in December when he briefly withdrew from the tournament after the much-discussed “Jeans Gate” and sharply attacked the world association.
