Jukurit has hired Jonne Virtanen as its head coach, the club informs. The contract covers the rest of the season.
Virtanen replaces Marko Tuomainen, who was fired.
– The situation is that we are not satisfied with the result and the collected points. This is a results sport and now was the time to react. We believe that this measure will bring a change of attitude to the team and we believe that with this move we will play our best game in the spring, Jukurie’s development manager Mikko Hakkarainen says in the press release.
Virtanen arrives in Mikkeli from the Mestis club Tuto, which he managed to coach for a season and a half.
Last spring, Tuto lost to Kiekko-Espo in the quarterfinals with a 3–4 win. Currently, the Turku club is sixth in the 10-team league.
Jukurit is last in the SM league. There are 14 points to the qualifying line.
– We want change and we know Jonne can bring it to our everyday life. With his own expertise and charisma, Jonne brings posture movement to training and playing, says Hakkarainen.
The rest of Jukurie’s coaching group will continue in their duties.
