In the future, 32 homes can be built on the site of the Parking lot (P-Oost), near the former Fletcher Hotel in Emmen. The area, between Van Schaikweg, Emmalaan and Kerkhoflaan, now offers space for more than 600 cars, but is hardly used.
In 2020, there were already plans to redesign the site. Housing construction was not allowed at the time, but the city council wants to change that, it was decided during the committee meeting tonight.
An important challenge remains the Argos gas station on Emmalaan, which is owned by Truckpoint RED. Before construction plans can go ahead, this gas station must be removed. The land on which it stands is also owned by Truckpoint RED.
The plan is to move the gas station, after which the pump owner can develop the land. Councilor Albert-Jan Jakobs (Wakker Emmen) says that an agreement appears to be reached with the initiator in question. He hopes that the plan can become a reality in the autumn of 2026.
The current plans make room for 10 spacious detached homes and 22 semi-detached homes. Although the council is in favor of housing construction in the municipality of Emmen, they would have preferred smaller homes or apartments for young people or seniors.
