A fire is currently raging in a farmhouse with a thatched roof at De Steeg in Winde. This is a blazing fire with heavy smoke development.
The residents managed to get out on time with their pets. No one was injured.
According to a fire brigade spokesperson, the fire started in the chimney. The thatch of the roof then caught fire. “And with such a thatched roof there is no stopping it, so we have to consider the farmhouse as lost.”
The fire brigade also keeps an eye on the adjacent house. “The neighbors also have a thatched roof, and that house is not far from the fire. It is of course important to ensure that the fire does not spread to the neighbors.”
Because the flames were coming out of the roof, the fire brigade scaled up to a ‘major fire’. This means that several fire brigades are called to help fight the fire.
In this case, fire engines from Norg, Zuidlaren, Roden, Eelde, Vries and Hoogeveen were called in. The fire can be seen from miles around, as can be seen in the photos below from Assen and Eelde:
