Next German podium finish at the IBU Biathletes Cup on the Arber: David Zobel took third place in the men’s pursuit race on Sunday. Previously, Stefanie Scherer and Marlene Fichtner were able to confirm their top 10 results from the previous day. The victory once again went to a French woman.

Biathlete David Zobel finished third in the IBU Cup pursuit. After two shooting errors, the athlete from the German Ski Association (DSV) finished about a minute and a half behind the Norwegians Johannes Dale and Isaak Frey.

The 28-year-old Zobel had finished fourth in the second sprint the day before. DSV athlete Roman Rees was able to take one of the podium places in third place. Rees slipped to eighth place in the pursuit after four errors (+2:32 minutes), while Lukas Fratzscher came seventh (3 errors, +2:21 minutes).

For the women, Stefanie Scherer and Marlene Fichtner were able to finish the second biathlon league competition in Arber, Bavaria, with eighth and ninth place. Both had already finished eighth and ninth respectively in the second sprint the day before, after finishing twelfth and 15th in the first sprint on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Scherer made two shooting errors and ultimately finished more than a minute behind (+1:16 minutes) behind the winner Amandine Mengin from France. The 21-year-old Fichtner only missed in the fourth shooting (+1:49 minutes).

France talent Mengin stands out

After the French won a quadruple victory in the sprint on Saturday, the Norwegian Ragnhild Femsteinevik broke the dominance of the Equipe Tricolore. Third place went to a Frenchwoman, Voldiya Galmace Paulin.

The other athletes from the German Ski Association (DSV) meanwhile missed the top 10 ranks.

Anna Weidel (1 error, +2:10 minutes) came eleventh, followed by Johanna Puff (16th, 2 errors, +2:51 minutes), Charlotte Gallbronner (25th, 3 errors, +3:34 minutes) and Lisa Maria Spark (29th, 5 errors, +3:59 minutes).

The IBU Cup on the Arber was clearly dominated by the French women, who were also the winners in both sprints. Amandine Mengin, who is just 20 years old, particularly stood out. On Thursday she started in the IBU Cup for the first time – and sensationally took victory straight away. In the second sprint she flew into second place with a shooting error, and now the second victory followed in the third race.
