The men’s runners also failed to identify the fastest woman. They started 9 minutes and 17 seconds later than the women. They did not close that gap. Khalid Choukoud and Beverwijker Stan Niesten were able to stay in the leading group for a longer period of time. Last year’s winner Lucas Nieuweboer was right behind.
Final sprint
Ultimately, three runners broke away: Samuel Barata, the Ugandan Mathew Chekwurui and Suldan Hassan from Sweden. The trio decided on a sprint on the Noord boulevard. The fastest man on paper, Barata, finished just ahead of Hassan and Chekwurui. The finishing time was not fast enough to also break the course record for the men. That remains in the name of Dawit Wolde in 1:00.46 (2012).
