The biathlon home game in Oberhof went anything but according to plan for the German ski hunter Philipp Horn. The local hero couldn’t find a reason for the poor performance after the two individual competitions.
For Philipp Horn, the biathlon weekend in front of his own audience turned into a real nightmare. The disappointing 44th place in the sprint on Friday was followed by 45th place in the pursuit on Saturday – a bitter setback after the good performance before Christmas in Annecy, France. There he finished fourth and eighth in both disciplines and thus scored important World Cup points.
In Oberhof, of all places, the 30-year-old, who was born not far from Arnstadt, lost his nerve at the shooting range. In the sprint he made four mistakes in the two deposits, the next day there were six in four deposits.
“It’s a shame is an understatement. I’m really disappointed,” summarized Horn after his forgettable home game. “I see the mood after the race, I look up at the stands and see my family there. I would really like to be happy and celebrate,” complained the DSV athlete: “It’s incredibly bitter.”
Biathlon home game for Horn already over
The veteran couldn’t find a real reason for his problems at the shooting range immediately after the pursuit on Saturday. He has “no explanation”, on the contrary: the last few days he has “shot well in training” and “felt good”. But in the competitions things “didn’t go smoothly”.
After the disappointing results, Philipp Horn was not nominated by the German Ski Association (DSV) for one of the relay races on Sunday, so his Oberhof home game ends after two competitions.
In the single mixed relay (12:20 p.m.) Justus Strelow and Selina Grotian will be competing for the DSV, in the following mixed relay (2:30 p.m.) Danilo Riethmüller, Philipp Nawrath, Julia Tannheimer and Franziska Preuß will be competing the quartet.
