TSG Hoffenheim’s crisis will continue into 2025 after the 0-1 (0-1) draw against VfL Wolfsburg. On Saturday, Mohamed Amoura (29th) scored the goal of the day. With the success, VfL improved a few places, but remains firmly in the middle of the table. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, has been waiting for a win since the end of November.
TSG’s lead over relegation place 16 is just one point. 1. FC Heidenheim, who won against Union Berlin at the start of the year and thus moved close to the hosts, is currently ranked there. In the final phase, Hoffenheim failed primarily due to their own ability to exploit their own chances.
Standard brings VfL forward
The first tricky situation for referee Christian Dingert arose after four minutes when Amoura went down in the Hoffenheim penalty area. However, it was cleared away by his own colleague – so the game continued without a penalty. A stationary ball then gave the visitors the lead: Maximilian Arnold’s corner found the completely unmarked Amoura, who headed it in at the top left.
TSG was by no means worse, there were certainly chances on both sides: Adam Hlozek’s shot narrowly missed the goal (31′). On the other side, TSG goalkeeper Oliver Baumann prevented Tiago Tomas from conceding the second goal (39′). Hoffenheim’s new signing Gift Orban only hit a VfL defensive leg in the last chance before the break.
TSG awards good ones Opportunities for compensation
The hosts came out of the break better: a cross pass from Orban was blocked, as were two shot attempts from Tom Bischof. The brief flash in the pan was over after a few minutes and the game became increasingly flat. The next notable chance came from an Arnold free kick that found Konstantinos Koulierakis. His header landed on the goal net (59′). In a weak game, nothing at all happened for a quarter of an hour – before the game really picked up speed again.
Andrej Kramaric shook everyone in the stadium awake with TSG’s best chance to date (75′). In return, the post saved the hosts from a volley from Jonas Wind. The game was now gaining momentum and Hoffenheim should have equalized, but Alexander Prass shot over the empty goal from five meters just minutes before the end. The hosts pushed for an equalizer and Wolfsburg defended their lead passionately until the end.
