In 2019, Bruges opted for a skating rink made of artificial ice. It had to be an ecological alternative because a real skating rink is too expensive and polluting. The change was received very lukewarm at the time. But a satisfaction survey conducted by the city of Bruges at the end of the year shows that the skating experience is and remains very poor.

“The skating rink does not score well. We are going to tackle that. The techniques and ways in which the ice is made today are completely different than five or six years ago,” says Alderman for Tourism in Bruges Minou Esquenet.
