The German biathlon men experienced a debacle in the sprint at their home World Cup in Oberhof and clearly missed the podium.
Justus Strelow was the best athlete in the German Ski Association in a French triple victory in a sobering 18th place. The prospects for the pursuit on Saturday (2:45 p.m./ZDF and Eurosport) over 12.5 km are correspondingly poor.
In good conditions this time, Strelow was a whopping 1:12.9 minutes behind the leaders with one shooting error in the 10 km race on the Rennsteig.
In total, the German team made 17 (!) shooting errors. Johannes Kühn (2), Philipp Nawrath (3), Danilo Riethmüller (3), who recently came second in the mass start in Grand Bornand, Simon Kaiser (4) and Philipp Horn (4) clearly missed the top 25.
Fillon Maillet celebrates his first individual World Cup victory in almost three years
Quentin Fillon Maillet triumphed with a flawless shooting performance ahead of his teammates Fabien Claude (0/+14.9 seconds) and Emilien Jacquelin (1/+22.1).
For Fillon Maillet it was the first individual World Cup victory in almost three years, the 15th overall of his career.
On Friday the weather played along in Oberhof. After the heavy rain on Thursday, which had a massive impact on the women’s sprint, it snowed overnight. In order to prepare the route on the Rennsteig, the numerous helpers started an early shift from 3 a.m. onwards.
The pursuits take place on Saturday (12:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.), before the weekend in Oberhof on Sunday with the single mixed (12:20 p.m.) and mixed relay (2:30 p.m./ZDF and Eurosport) is completed.
