It was already expected that Everton FC would part ways with coach Sean Dyche. The timing of the leave of absence is surprising, however.

Everton FC parted ways with coach Sean Dyche shortly before an upcoming cup game on Thursday. That gave the table 16th. the Premier League announced in a brief statement almost three hours before kick-off of the FA Cup game against third division team Peterborough. U18 coach Leighton Baines and team captain Seamus Coleman will oversee the team on an interim basis.

Everton had only won one of its last eleven league games and is now only one point away from a relegation place in the table. The British media had been speculating about a change of coach for days, also because the club has new owners. The Friedkin Group – also the owner of AS Roma in Italy – recently took over the struggling Liverpool club.

According to rumors, José Mourinho, who has been released from Roma, is considered a coaching candidate at Everton. The 61-year-old is under contract with Fenerbahçe Istanbul, but is said to be unhappy in Turkey. Mourinho is said to want a return to the Premier League, where he has coached Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Everton coach David Moyes, who shaped a successful era at the Toffees from 2002 to 2013 and was most recently under contract with West Ham United for five years, is also featured in the British media.
