The occupants of a broken down intercity train – which is stationary just south of the Moerdijk Bridge – are evacuated. This concerns an Intercity New Generation (ICNG) that goes from Breda to Rotterdam. The train is stationary on the high-speed train route, parallel to the A16. There are therefore no trains running on that track, the NS reports.
According to an ANP reporter on the train, the occupants must transfer to another train, which will be parked parallel to the broken train on an adjacent track. According to him, it is a relatively short train, with several hundred passengers.
It often happens that passengers have to leave a broken train, but they can usually transfer to replacement buses. These are difficult to use on the HSL route, says an NS spokesperson.
The cause of the disruption is probably the difference in voltage on the normal train route and the HSL route. When transitioning from one route to the other, the train has to switch in a so-called voltage lock and is stranded exactly there.
