The competitors of this year’s New Music Competition, or UMK, will be announced today, Wednesday, January 8, starting at 7:45 p.m. From the seven contestants, Finland’s representative will be chosen for the Eurovision Song Contest held in Basel, Switzerland in May.
Today it will be revealed which artists or bands are competing for the coveted spot of Eurovision representative. Iltalehti follows the artist announcement live in this story.

This year, in the song search phase of the competition, 485 songs were submitted, which is a record for UMK’s current application process.
Finland’s representative will be chosen in the New Music Competition on February 8 at Tampere’s Nokia Arena. The artists’ competition songs and music videos will be published one at a time on weekdays from January 9 to 17.
The artist announcement is hosted by another of UMK’s presenters, Jasmin Beloued. Another presenter, artist Sanni, will also be seen in the announcement broadcast.
