Frits Wester believes that Marco Borsato’s case should be treated as a priority, so that he has clarity more quickly. “I can’t imagine he did it either.”

The case against Marco Borsato has been dragging on for years and years, but this year there is finally light at the end of the tunnel. It won’t be long before the case is scheduled and his friend Frits Wester thinks that is a very good thing. He believes that the singer should have been treated with priority by the court in any case.

‘Not done’

Frits comes from the same region as Marco and knows him well. Does he still speak to him? “Not lately. Well, that’s when it all started happening. Then he also swore to me: ‘Frits, you know me, right? I’m not wired like that.’ Yes, let me not say too much about it, because Marco and I have known each other for a long time.”

He continues at the table in the talk show by Renze Klamer: “I haven’t spoken to him lately, but I can’t imagine he did it. But that doesn’t mean to say anything about the victims, because yes, it’s more how I know the man, so I’ll leave that out.”

Priority

Frits thinks it’s all way too long-winded. “Of course it takes an incredibly long time. A boy like that, a man like that, is completely destroyed and that also applies to the victim. It also takes far too long for the victims to get clarity. These are one of those things that also play a role in public opinion, so why can’t it be done faster?”

“It is not only about the Marco case, but also about Ali B and other cases. Surely this should be possible with some priority? People are completely convicted or the victim is completely put through the mill. It just takes way too long.”

Saskia disagrees

Court reporter Saskia Belleman strongly disagrees with this. “I don’t know whether it should be given a bit of priority. There are many sexual offense cases that have been waiting for treatment for a very long time, that are on a shelf and victims also think: when will it be my turn?”

No, everyone just has to wait their turn, the Telegraaf journalist concludes. “I don’t think you should always give priority to famous Dutch people.”
