(toskanews) – It is a powerful, surprising and impactful story M – The son of the centurythe highly anticipated series based on the novel by Antonio Scurati, on Sky and NOW from 10 January. An ascent made possible thanks to a vitalism that becomes violence, an opportunism that exploits the discontent of the first post-war period and the weakness of politics, as the director explained: «Mussolini was an opportunist, he clung to everything that could bring out if himself and his ego, he knew how to exploit what was happening to his advantage.”

«He uses the opportunity to get what he wants, which is simply power. And he does it at all costs, without looking anyone in the face and taking advantage of every opportunity” Marinelli specified.

The series written by Stefano Bises and Davide Serino, through a contemporary language, offers a portrait of the man who, despite having betrayed ideals, people and institutions, despite having been guilty of acts of unprecedented violence, made the whole of Italy fall in love with him, becoming the undisputed Duce. «He was also, let’s say, the inventor of populism, gathering consensus from all sides, giving simple answers to much bigger problems. – said Marinelli – In my opinion, what I was saying is very interesting, that in this series the parallels with the present must be seen. Just over 100 years have passed and it is still a very current and very present story.”
