The Eisbären Berlin lost in a DEL catch-up game at the Kölner Haien and missed out on reaching the top of the table.

In a catch-up game on the 27th matchday, the Eisbären lost 3:5 in Cologne in front of a sold-out hall. With a win, the Eisbären could have temporarily overtaken leaders Ingolstadt, but now remain second. For Cologne it was the fourth win from the last five games, the team is in sixth place in the last direct playoffs.

Berlin equalizes three times, then Cologne pulls away

Parker Tuomie gave Cologne an early 1-0 lead (2nd). Lean Bergmann scored shortly before the first break to make it 1-1 (17th). In the middle section, Cologne took the lead again after just 49 seconds through Frederik Storm. Liam Kirk quickly equalized for the Berliners (23′).

A spectacular third developed. After 30 minutes, ex-Berlin player Louis-Marc Aubry scored on a counterattack to make it 3-2 for the Haie, but Berlin found an answer again: Gabriel Fontaine made it 3-3 (31st). Alexandre Grenier took Cologne’s fourth lead of the evening (36th). In the final third, the Haie increased the score to 5:3 through Maximilian Kammerer (46th).

Eagles lose in penalty shootout

The Adler Mannheim remain fifth after a defeat in the penalty shootout at the Straubing Tigers.

Yannick Proske gave the Eagles the lead in the first third of the catch-up game on matchday 33 (16th). Mario Zimmermann equalized for Straubing in the final third in the 48th minute.

Danjo Leonhardt scored the decisive try for the Tigers in the penalty shootout against Mannheim goalkeeper Felix Brückmann.

Polar bears now in Mannheim

The season continues with the 35th matchday on Thursday and Friday. The Eisbären will play at Adler Mannheim on Thursday, while league leaders Ingolstadt will face the Augsburg Panthers.
