The Finnish striker’s streak is getting longer.
Colorado star forward Mikko Rantanen already stretched his scoring streak to 14 games when he scored the last 3-1 goal against Florida.
During the pinna tube that started on December 7, the Finnish attacker has scored nine goals and provided 14 goal assists. So a total of 23 points.
Rantanen has reached a 14-game point streak once before in his career, but the 15-game streak has yet to come up. The streak of records is on the horizon the night before Thursday, when Colorado faces Chicago on the road.
Rantanen’s balance for the whole season is already impressive: 41 games and 58 (24+34) points. At this rate, he is forging a whopping 116 points in 82 regular season games. Before this season, Rantanen has scored 105 points in the regular season at his best in the 2022–2023 season.
The contract is broken
The cannon season hits a good seam for the Finn, as Rantanen’s contract with Colorado ends this season. As the record streak continues, the gentleman can constantly raise his salary request a little.
However, the problem for Rantanen is that Colorado hardly wants to pay the Finn more than the team’s number one star To Nathan MacKinnon. The Canadian averages $12.6 million per season.
However, MacKinnon already signed his contract in September 2022. The salary cap in the 2022-2023 season was “only” 82.5 million dollars. Next season, it will be at least $92.4 million, so Rantase can afford to ask for more than MacKinnon once had.
The Athletic magazine estimated Rantanen’s value at around USD 13.3 million at the end of December. The tag in question would take 14.4 percent of Colorado’s salary cap. MacKinnon’s ticket once took 15.1 percent of Colorado’s salary budget.
The fact that Rantanen still hasn’t hammered out a new extension deal with Colorado says a lot about the complexity of the situation. The Finn’s transfer to a new club would no longer be a huge surprise.
With his current contract, Rantanen has received an average of 9.25 million for the season.
