Sara Hector amazes the giant slalom competition in Kranjska Gora. The Swede braved the ice slope in Slovenia and is clearly leading. Lena Dürr will probably also be there in the second round.

Hector delivered a spectacular ride in the atmospheric winter sports resort in the morning. The overall runner-up in the Giant Slalom World Cup took the lead on Saturday (January 4th, 2024) with start number four and goes into the second round with over a second ahead of the Albanian Lara Colturi (+1.13 seconds). Thea Louise Stjernesund (Norway/+1.19) follows directly behind.

Dürr and Co. have major problems

Except for Hector, all athletes had to struggle with the slippery track at the foot of Triglav. This also applies to Germany’s top rider Lena Dürr, who is actually at home in slalom. At the finish, the 33-year-old from Germeringen was a reasonable 2.50 seconds behind and was initially in 17th place. She will most likely make it into the second round of the best 30 riders.

Hector defies a cold – Brignone out

Actually, I didn’t want to, I had a cold” explained Hector after their first run. “Maybe I’ve had enough of a break, but I also like ice cream.“The Italian star Federica Brignone didn’t cope at all. The winner of Sölden and Semmering slipped past the goal and therefore has to give up her lead in the Giant Goal World Cup.
