PSV has signed Esmir Bajraktarevic. The 19-year-old international from Bosnia and Herzegovina is taken over from the American New England Revolution and has signed a contract until mid-2029. How much the Eindhoven team paid for the wing attacker has not been announced.
According to director of football affairs Earnest Stewart, the club has been following him since January last year. “He is a left-footed player who we brought in for the right flank. He is very sensitive to the ball, has a good cross, is strong in 1-on-1 and can also score a goal himself. Esmir is really such a player who may surprise people with his actions.”
Bajraktarevic played for his country against the Dutch national team on September 7 last year. That Nations League match was played in the Philips Stadium. The Dutch team won 5–2, but Bajraktarevic did provide the assist for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s second goal, which was scored by Edin Džeko.
“That was a good introduction to Eindhoven. The atmosphere in the stadium was great and it is perhaps the most special moment of my career so far,” says Bajraktarevic, who now has six international matches to his name.
“Esmir is still young and we will of course give him the time he needs to acclimatize.”
Bajraktarevic has yet to obtain a work permit. If there is, he will join the PSV selection and will be given the shirt number 19. Stewart: “Esmir is still young and we will of course give him the time he needs to acclimatize.”
Bajraktarevic was born in Appleton, Wisconsin. He played in youth for SC Wave and Chicago Fire. New England Revolution acquired him in 2021. A year later, he signed his first professional contract there, which bound him to the Major League Soccer club until December 2025.
The right winger has played 45 games in the highest football competition in the United States. “I can’t wait to take action for this legendary club,” says Bajraktarevic. “They play the football that suits me here. In addition, I already feel that the atmosphere within the club and in Eindhoven is very pleasant. I have only been here a few days, but I already feel at home. I will do everything I can to win a lot of prizes here.”
