Darth Vader has officially (and unsurprisingly) been named the Star Wars universe’s favorite villain. In a Radio Times poll, a third of respondents chose the Dark Lord of the Sith, portrayed in three films by David Prowse, from a selection of 16 villains. A total of 10,000 “Star Wars” fans took part in the survey.
Boba gets his fat off
The Emperor – played by Ian McDiarmid – came in far behind in second place with 18 percent of the vote. There was once again a tough neck-and-neck race for third place. Between Darth Maul, Grand Admiral Thrawn and Boba Fett, military commander Thrawn ultimately won the race, while Boba ended up in 5th place. But there’s no reason to be sad for Boba Fett. Recently returning to the franchise in the second season of “The Mandalorian,” the iron bounty hunter will get his very own flick next year. Then maybe no longer as a villain.
By the way, it’s astonishing that Fett’s arch-enemy Jabba ended up in last place – with two percent of the vote.
Darth Vader – The Face of Evil
For Huw Fullerton, the sci-fi and fantasy editor of “RadioTimes.com”, Darth Vader is also a clear winner: “Never underestimate the power of the dark side.” With 33 percent of the votes, Darth Vader clearly stands out his competitors from the dark forces. “Over 40 years after he first appeared on our screens, it’s clear that Star Wars fans’ faith in Lord Vader is stronger than ever.”
New Obi Wan Kenobi series: Hayden Christensen plays Darth Vader
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Darth Vader in the new upcoming Obi Wan Kenobi series. How could Christensen now resist the offer to take on the role of the favorite villain again? “It was such an incredible adventure playing Anakin Skywalker,” Christensen said in a statement.
As Obi-Wan’s rival, he probably has enough room to fulfill his role as a supervillain in the new series. Christensen: “Of course, Anakin and Obi-Wan weren’t the best of friends when we last saw them… It’ll be interesting to see what an amazing director like Deborah Chow has in store for all of us.” He’s particularly excited also about working with Ewan: “I’m thrilled to be working with Ewan again. It feels good to be back.”
