Next year the quota for sole in the North Sea will increase, but not in western waters. And that’s where the most fish are. The quote is therefore a heavy burden for the sector. Putting more pressure on Europe could bring some relief. For this purpose, there will be an industry groupage, including fishermen, customers, ship owners and the fish auction itself. They must defend the interests.
“We continue to believe in Belgian fishing and will continue with the planned investments. This year we put our new sorting line in Ostend into use and we invested in a new auction system. Although there are teething problems, everything is starting to go well,” says Geert De Groote, chairman of the Redercentrale.
