Felix Magath has joined SpVgg Unterhaching according to a report by “Picture“-newspaper canceled. The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” had previously written that the third division club was aiming to sign the former master coach of Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg. In addition, the discussions with the prominent 71-year-old are already well advanced. Now nothing seems to come of it. According to the new report, Magath’s commitment is out of the question because the club lacks upward prospects. There have been discussions with the Hachingers, but Magath’s goal remains the Bundesliga.
When asked by “SZ”, President Manfred Schwabl at least made it clear that the coaching question was open. He left the question of whether he was negotiating with other candidates unanswered. Sven Bender has been coaching the third division team, which is in serious danger of relegation, since the beginning of December after Marc Unterberger was released from the club. However, Bender does not have a trainer’s license. The Munich suburban club had only managed two wins this season, the last one being on September 1st. As the bottom of the table, the game association is currently separated by six points from the safe side. At the start of the second half of the season, they will welcome Borussia Dortmund’s second representative team on January 18th.
By then, veteran coach Magath could have prepared the squad for the second half of the season. Magath lives in Munich and worked for Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart, Hamburger SV and Schalke 04, among others. He became German champion three times, in 2005 and 2006 with Bayern, and in 2009 with Wolfsburg. He was most recently under contract with Hertha BSC and managed to stay in the league in 2022. Magath had already said he wanted to work again and had no problem doing so in the 3rd league or 2nd league.

Magath in Unterhaching? Discussions in the Transfermarkt forum
The personnel has also been widely discussed in the Transfermarkt community since Sunday evening. For example, TM user “UH-G_97” wrote in the Unterhaching forum: “Would be an interesting solution. I think it’s somehow better than Bender, simply because I can’t imagine that Felix Magath will let the club dictate anything to him.” User “voelkiandi” chimed in: “I think it’s the time of patting the players and take along’ has proven to be ineffective this season; ‘leading at eye level’ doesn’t seem to have any effect at the moment. Old-school authority might not be a bad idea. And apart from that: the players will be fit in a short time. I don’t think there would be a hail of goals conceded from minute 85 onwards like in the first half of the season. I would feel sorry for Bender, I consider him to be of a similar caliber as Sandro Wagner, but the whole thing came 1-2 years too early for him.
User “letti” said: “At least motivates some more spectators to go to the stadium. As far as sport is concerned, we’ll see.” “VorstadtFlo” was certain that Magath “isn’t a model for many years either; would probably only be for the second half of the season anyway. User “coolioll” attested: “It’s the player material that makes me more skeptical. At all successful stations he had an outstanding playmaker and at least one top striker. The latter can develop.” And user “darlouhg” looks at the speculation surrounding Magath optimistically: “I see it positively for now. It can’t get much worse than bottom of the table anyway.”
