The New Year’s dive in the Westeinderplassen is a joint initiative of the local swimming and windsurfing clubs and Fitness Aalsmeer. But after two successful editions, there will not be a third this New Year. Just like in Egmond aan Zee, Wijk aan Zee and Heemstede, the expected ‘storm force 6 and possible rain’ will throw a spanner in the works, reports the organization in Aalsmeer.
Feeling temperature around freezing point
“The feeling temperature is expected to be around freezing point. Despite the presence of the rescue brigade and the first aid team, we have had to decide that the organization is not going to take the risk.” Last year, one hundred and fifty people took part in the dive.
That does not mean that no New Year’s dive will be organized in Aalsmeer at all. The swimming festival will take place at 2 p.m. in the Oosterbad, because there are warm showers and changing rooms there. The organization of the dive in the Westeinderplassen also refers their participants to this.
