Bo Svensson: A tragic figure

Union Berlin is parting ways with Bo Svensson after just six months. The coach was unable to sustainably improve the team. But: He also failed because the squad was too weak. Now the pressure is on Horst Heldt. A Comment by Till Oppermannmore

Important duels after the winter break

“After a detailed analysis of the season so far, we are convinced that a significant change is necessary to reverse the trend,” said Heldt, justifying Svensson’s release.

After 15 games played and three points from eight games, Union is in twelfth place in the table with 17 points – seven points ahead of the relegation zone.

The decision to change coach came immediately before landmark duels. After the winter break, it’s against the Keller competitors from Heidenheim (Saturday, January 11th, 3:30 p.m.) and Augsburg (Friday, January 15th, 8:30 p.m.). Those games are important tests for Union’s new coach Baumgart.
