After eight games, the series broke: FC Bayern’s basketball players lost their first match in their new home.

The basketball players from FC Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat in the Euroleague at their home SAP Garden. The team of former national coach Gordon Herbert had to admit defeat to defending champion Panathinaikos Athens with 69:80 (36:32).

The German champions had previously won all eight games in their new home. Against the Greek top team, Andreas Obst was the hosts’ best scorer with 19 points. Johannes Voigtmann had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Bayern got off to a good start in the SAP Garden, which was sold out with 11,000 spectators, and quickly took a 9-0 lead. But towards the end of the first quarter, the Greeks found their way into the game better and even pulled away with ten points in the middle of the second period (30:20). But the Munich team found their way back into the game and were ahead again at the break with 36:32.

After the break, the exciting game went back and forth. In the final quarter, Bayern were once again in the lead with 67:66, but then Panathinaikos pulled away decisively with a 12-0 run.
