Cross-country skiing Olympic champion Katharina Hennig will not be taking part in the Tour de Ski. Health problems are troubling Hennig.

“The body is not healthy in terms of health,” wrote the 28-year-old from Oberwiesenthal on Instagram. It was a “hard decision” to forego the traditional stage race, which starts on December 28th in Toblach (South Tyrol) and ends on January 5th in Val di Fiemme.

Eleventh on tour last year

“I give my body the time it needs to get healthy and then I have enough time to prepare well for the upcoming World Championships in Norway,” Hennig continued. The Nordic World Ski Championships will take place in Trondheim from February 26th to March 9th.

In the previous season, Hennig came eleventh overall at the Tour de Ski, and in 2022/23 she achieved her best result in fifth place. She is currently in a good seventh place in the overall World Cup, although health and mental problems had made her preparation difficult before the start of the season.
