After a series of fines for speeding in Brussels and one for incorrect parking in Grimbergen, Flemish Brabant, Johan Schodts (59) believes that “the fine tsunami” has gone too far. He also refuses to pay fines in our country. According to Schodts, the system – in which the amount only increases if payment is not made – is mainly intended to feed the municipal coffers. “In essence, it is a business model with a view to maximizing profit,” he says.
