On the left was Jorrel Hato and on the right was Anton Gaaei. “We were missing a number of players and a few players could not start. In addition, Sparta uses a lot of long balls and that is why we opted for this system. The first half went less well, but in the second half we were able to bring in fresh players and that was partly why things went a lot better.”

Farioli has now been employed by Ajax for six months and a lot has been said and written about that. His enthusiasm is contagious and also earns the Amsterdam team many points. But there is a lot of commentary on his rotation policy and the attractiveness of the game is sometimes hard to find. The Italian coach himself says that he is returning to his home country with a good feeling. He also indicated afterwards that he became the father of a son yesterday.
