Markus Söder wanted to accompany a 1. FC Nürnberg game as a TV expert. The politician is resigning due to the attack in Magdeburg.

Markus Söder is foregoing his debut as a TV expert in the 2nd Bundesliga. The CSU politician did not travel to the 1. FC Nürnberg game against Eintracht Braunschweig due to the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market. This was announced by the broadcaster Sport1.

The self-confessed fan of the “Club” from Nuremberg was actually supposed to be there as a co-commentator and expert on the microphone. The broadcaster announced this on Friday.

But the attack pushed this plan into the background. Söder himself visited the Christmas market in Nuremberg on Saturday together with Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann and Mayor Marcus König. “The attack in Magdeburg is unimaginable and deeply affecting. Our thoughts are with the relatives of the victims and all those injured,” wrote Söder on the X platform and added: “Our thanks go to all the rescue and security forces who helped so quickly – and all those who are still caring for the injured in hospitals today.”
