After Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting (35), MLS club New York Red Bulls also signed Alexander Hack (31). The defender played for Al-Qadsiah FC in Saudi Arabia until last summer, before both sides mutually terminated the contract, which was originally valid until 2025. At the NYRB, Hack received a working paper for two seasons including the option for another – and will meet coach Sandro Schwarz again.
“Alexander is a proven defender from his time in the Bundesliga and we are pleased to add a player of his quality to our squad. He will bring more experience to our squad and be a good role model for our younger players,” said sports director Jochen Schneider. With a market value of 1.5 million euros, Hack was the most valuable German professional without a club, and now Christoph Kramer (33) leads the ranking.
Hack was a professional at FSV Mainz 05 between 2015 and 2023, for whom he made 145 appearances and contributed nine goals and three assists. The former DFB junior met Schwarz in Mainz and played under him more often than for any other coach in his career: 68 times. At the end of 2023, Schwarz took over the position in New York and recently led the club to the championship final, in which LA Galaxy (2-1) with Marco Reus emerged as the winner.
