December 19 – 9.18pm – MILAN

If it was known since the beginning of December that the 90th edition of the Vuelta would start from Piedmont, which will host the first three stages in full starting from 23 August, today it was revealed that the fourth stage, starting from Susa, will arrive in France after having climbed Montgenèvre and Lautaret. Then the runners will board the plane to head to Spain.

anniversary

The fifth stage will be a team time trial, while the following day the first major mountain section will arrive with a finish line in Andorra, the fourth state crossed by the Vuelta in 2025. For its 90th anniversary, the Tour of Spain wants to “pay homage to tradition inserting some steps that have marked its history”, such as Morredero, Cerler or Valdezcaray, said the director of the race, Javier Guillen, in the presentation. The program also features cult climbs, such as the terrifying Angliru, in Asturias, one of the most difficult in the world, scheduled for the 13th stage.

final stretch

With four days to go, Valladolid, the city that hosted the finish of the first stage of the first Vuelta in 1935, will host a potentially decisive individual time trial. The day before the final arrival in Madrid, on September 14, a final mountain stage is planned with a climb to the Bola del Mundo, where Nibali won the Vuelta in 2010. The organizers hope that this route will please Tadej Pogacar. The Slovenian, third in 2019 for his first and only participation, said he would wait for the routes of the Vuelta and the Giro d’Italia to decide which of these two great Tours he will contest in 2025 alongside the Tour.
