Brian Cox has spoken out in favor of allowing Kevin Spacey to return to the film business. In March 2024, after a six-year absence from the big screen, he made his comeback in the independent thriller “Peter Five Eight”.
“Forgive and Forget”?
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Succession actor Cox looked back on the Spacey controversy following a series of allegations against him in 2017. He recently met with him. Cox spoke out in favor of giving his controversial colleague the chance to work again. “I think he’s done with it,” Cox said. “He got the kick that some people think he deserved.” He stressed that Spacey shouldn’t be punished forever. “It should be a case of forgiving and forgetting. Let’s move on,” Cox added. The two Hollywood stars have known each other for over 30 years. In 1994, they starred side by side in Disney’s Iron Will.
Spacey was accused of sexual assault by actor Anthony Rapp in 2017. The plaintiff accused him of sexually molesting him when Rapp was 14 years old. The “House of Cards” star then became the center of a media controversy. Numerous other accusations followed. In 2022, a court ruled that the American could not be held liable in the Rapps case. In 2023, a court in the United Kingdom acquitted him of all charges in nine cases of sexual assault.
New allegations after “Channel 4” documentary

In the public debate about Spacey’s possible return to the film business, Brian Cox is not the only supporter. Other celebrities such as Liam Neeson, Sharon Stone and Stephen Fry have also spoken out in support of him. Spacey himself has always denied the allegations against him and has repeatedly defended himself against the negative media coverage. The actor is currently struggling with financial difficulties and recently had to sell his property in Baltimore to avoid impending bankruptcy.
