Anthony and Johan Schatteman: “With ‘Young Hearts’ I made the film that I would have liked to see as an adolescent boy who struggled with his feelings”

“It wasn’t until I was 21 that my dad knew I was gay,” says screenwriter-director Anthony Schatteman (35). That dad is Johan Schatteman, once a successful charm singer who turned many party tents upside down: “I would have liked to have known earlier, but I was so busy.” That struggle is what ‘Young Hearts’, Anthony’s autobiographical debut film, is about. “This film has brought closure: the family hug after the premiere said more than words.”
