This is a big shock for Premier League club Chelsea FC: Ukrainian player Mychajlo Mudryk tested positive for doping.
The Ukrainian football player Mudryk from the English club FC Chelsea tested positive in a routine doping test. The club confirmed this in a press release. “Both the club and Mychajlo fully support the FA’s testing program and all of our players, including Mychajlo, are tested regularly,” the Premier League club wrote.
It is not known which banned substances are involved. Chelsea continued: “Mychajlo has categorically confirmed that he has never knowingly taken any banned substances. Both Mychajlo and the club will now work with the relevant authorities to find out what led to the negative result.”
The Ukrainian international also commented on his Instagram page. “This came as a complete shock to me as I have never knowingly taken banned substances or broken any rules. I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened,” said the 23-year-old.
The player only faces a penalty if the B sample also produces a positive result. According to media reports, the result is expected in the coming days. Mudryk further wrote: “I know that I have done nothing wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the field soon. I cannot say more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can can.”
