Ex-Bundesliga professional seriously injured after attack

Former Schalke professional Guido Burgstaller now plays in Vienna. His club has now announced that the striker was attacked and seriously injured.
Former Bundesliga professional Guido Burgstaller has fallen victim to a serious physical attack. As his club Rapid Vienna announced, the incident occurred at the weekend in the “presence of witnesses”. According to his club, the 35-year-old suffered “significant head injuries”. The perpetrator is still unknown.
The former FC Schalke professional (2017 to 2020) suffered “among other things a fractured skull after a fall caused by a brutal blow”. The club also announced that the ex-Nuremberg professional (2015 to 2017) was taken to a hospital and examined and treated there.
The consequences of the attack are serious: Burgstaller is expected to be out for several months and will also be in hospital in the coming days. Rapid Vienna also announced: “It is also a fact that he will not be able to practice his job for several months.” The attacker had originally planned to end his career after the end of the season.
Burgstaller receives a lot of support on social media. Under Rapid Vienna’s post, 1. FC Nürnberg wrote: “We hope you come back, Burgi, and wish you all the best for your recovery.” Many fans also wrote encouraging messages and wished the footballer a speedy recovery.
