Dynamo Dresden continues to ride the wave of success. The Saxons fought off Waldhof Mannheim and had the necessary bit of luck, especially after the substitution. The reward is the temporary lead in the table.

SG Dynamo Dresden gifted the fans with a victory in the last home game of the year. But until the 2-1 win against Waldhof Mannheim was certain, the black and yellow had to do hard work. Almost 29,000 spectators saw a great game, especially after the break.

Dynamo rewards itself early – Mannheim remains dangerous

Dresden head coach Thomas Stamm saw no reason to change the starting lineup compared to the 3-0 win against Bielefeld. And Dynamo started with a lot of pressure and restricted Mannheim in the first few minutes. And rewarded after just ten minutes. Jakob Lemmer played the ball sharply from the right into the middle, where Niklas Hauptmann got his foot on it. The ball hit the left inside post and landed in the goal to make it 1-0.

But Mannheim didn’t seem shocked, pressed early and launched their first good attacks. After a corner, Julian Rieckmann hit his own player from nine meters, but fortunately Samuel Abifade didn’t catch the rebound (17th). After 25 minutes, the Dresden team broke free again, but were unable to convert the large amount of possession into clear chances. And Dynamo always had to be on their guard and were lucky that Lukas Klünter didn’t catch the ball from 14 meters in the 41st minute. On the other side, Hauptmann could have scored a brace after a great pass in stoppage time, but his low shot from 14 meters was missed by keeper Jan-Christoph Bartels.

Mannheim with a crossbar and equalizer

The guests came out of the locker room with great determination and gave their first warning signal in the 49th minute. A blast from Abifade from 16 meters landed on the underside of the crossbar. Dynamo hardly came from behind in this phase and almost logically conceded the equalizer in the 51st minute. Sascha Voelcke grabbed the ball after a blocked shot, marched into the penalty area and deliberately shot it into the right corner. Now it was an open exchange of blows, a ride on the razor’s edge.

Dresden goalkeeper Tim Schreiber cannot prevent Mannheim’s Sascha Voelcke from scoring to make it 1-1.

Lemmer’s hammer and Schreiber’s deed

Dynamo, however, had a Jakob Lemmer who hit the ball under the crossbar at full speed (65′). But Mannheim was far from defeated. In the 79th minute there was a great chance to equalize: Kennedy Okpala shot, keeper Schreiber and Jonas Oehmichen cleared the ball together in front of the line. But Dynamo didn’t allow much more and after five minutes of added time the stadium was allowed to celebrate.
