Together, the stalls form a long, winding ribbon through the city center, introducing more than a hundred thousand visitors from tomorrow morning to a wide range of Christmas decorations, Christmas gifts and food and drink. The city center is preparing for the busiest days of the year, but the crowds are not necessarily a problem for retailers.
Shopkeepers attract extra staff due to the Christmas market
“Make no mistake,” says Roy Sjoers, owner of Mr. Paprika in Koningstraat. “Our stall may be right in front of our own store, but we just have to pay for it. In addition, staff must be present for three days. In the meantime, we also have our normal store, which attracts extra people. Last year we noticed it had been stolen.”
