The suspension does not come after a complaint, but after an internal investigation by the ‘West Flemish Chamber of Notaries’ in collaboration with the public prosecutor’s office. It is said to have to do with possible financial tampering, more specifically the incorrect handling of money from the notary’s escrow account. This is an account into which customers deposit money that is not intended for the notary himself, but for third parties.
Bossuyt tells the Krant van West-Vlaanderen that he is innocent. According to him, the basis is a dispute between him and the other suspended notary with whom Bossuyt is associated. No customer would have suffered any damage in this file. A judicial investigation is currently underway at the public prosecutor’s office.
