Bill Belichick has been considered a hot contender for the coaching job at the University of North Carolina (UNC) for some time. The NFL veteran finally admitted on Monday that he was actually in talks with the renowned college.

According to “ESPN” reporter Adam Schefter, Belichick sat with several UNC representatives for five hours on Sunday to discuss a possible commitment. On the “Pat McAfee Show” at the beginning of the week, the 72-year-old confirmed that he had “a few good conversations” with UNC Chancellor Lee Roberts.

Otherwise, Belichick did not want to participate any further in the speculation surrounding himself. “We’ll see how it goes,” he blocked instead. “We’ll see, we’ll see.”

The former head coach of the New England Patriots Nevertheless, he already has detailed plans in the event that he signs up for the Tar Heels or another college team.

“If I were to go to a college program, the college program would be kind of a conduit to the NFL for the players who had what it takes to play in the NFL,” the veteran announced. “It would be a professional program – training, nutrition, scheme, coaching and techniques that would be transferable to the NFL.”

According to Belichick, the NFL door is not yet closed

Despite these concrete ideas regarding college football, Belichick – who is, after all, the most successful head coach in the history of the league – is by no means ruling out a return to the NFL.

“I’m open to many ideas. I’m interested in football at the college or professional level and would equally explore those options and ultimately see what each has to offer and what would best suit me and possibly another organization,” reported the eight-time Super Bowl winner in the latest edition of the “Let’s Go!” podcast.
