Tarragona’s Nastic, a Catalan team currently in the Primera Federacion, the Spanish C series, has established a historic precedent for Spanish football by reporting referee Eder Mallo Fernandez to ordinary justice. The news was given by El Mundo who had access to the complaint, which refers to the return match of the promotion playoff played in Tarragona against Malaga on 22 June. At the Rosaleda, Malaga won 2-1, in Catalonia it ended 2-2 with a decisive draw for the Andalusian team’s promotion to the Segunda in the 120th minute.

false documentation

The complaint is for a crime of false documents: the Nastic managers claim that Mallo Fernandez made false statements in his report drawn up at the end of the match (in Spain the reports are public and end up on the football federation’s website a few minutes after the final whistle) when he claimed to have feared for his physical safety once he returned to the locker room.

the interview

In Tarragona they hired a private detective agency, Method 3, and they had a conversation with Mallo Fernandez, recording the chat without the referee’s knowledge, in which it clearly emerges that the whistleblower did not fear for his own safety, thus denying what written in the report. Hence the accusation of false documents.

serious errors

In the conversation the referee reveals his very little sympathy for the Catalan city (“A shitty place”) and for the Mossos d’Escuadra, the local police, defined as “The most corrupt in Spain”. From Nastic they also asked the former referee Estrada Fernandez to analyze the match in question and in his report the whistle speaks of 13 obvious errors committed by his colleague whose behavior is defined as “Absurd”.

the words

The private investigators then in their report tell how on the one hand the referee Mallo Fernandez, speaking with a bartender in a restaurant the evening before the match, had declared that “He had taken the plaque from the right back of Nastic”, namely Nacho Gonzalez, sent off at minute 63′ the next day. And in another restaurant, again on the eve, those of Method 3 collected testimonies from waiters who heard members of the Andalusia Region declare that “Everything is settled, we only fear the reaction of the public”.

the previous one

In Tarragona they are convinced that they have been wronged, and point out that the promotion of Mallo Fernandez, who is actually now refereeing in Segunda, was agreed upon along with the promotion of Malaga. Serious accusations, evidence that will be up to the judge to weigh and verify, but the historic precedent has served: a club takes a referee to court.
