Two people who were injured in the explosion in the Mariahoeve district of The Hague on Saturday were staying in the basement of a café at the time of the incident. That reports Broadcasting West Tuesday morning. The bartender and a regular customer slept in the basement that night, the owner told the regional broadcaster.

The pub on Tarwekamp was swept away in the explosion, which killed six people. It is not known whether the pair had to be rescued by emergency services from the basement, which according to the broadcaster can be reached from outside. The two were reportedly taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation. The police could not yet be reached on Tuesday morning NRC.

“The bartender regularly sleeps in the basement after work,” says the owner at Omroep West. The pub officially closes at 3am, but he confirms that it “could get late at times”. Local residents say that there were regular complaints about noise pollution, partly because visitors lingered after closing time.

The explosion left a large crater where the café was located, at the bottom of the destroyed apartment complex. Work is taking place to stabilize the building. For this reason, the forensic investigation has been temporarily halted. the police reported Monday. The investigation will resume later.

Network operator Stedin tells the ANP news agency that it does not assume that the explosion was caused by a gas leak. “The circumstances are still unknown, but we have no indications that it was a gas explosion,” said a spokesperson. The police previously announced that there were indications of a crime.

The search for victims was completed on Monday. The night before, emergency services found a sixth and final fatality under the rubble, also in a basement of the collapsed building. Until Friday there will be one in the immediate vicinity of the disaster site emergency order in force.
