With his visit to Continassa, the CEO of Exor, majority shareholder of the Juventus club, wanted to convey some concepts to the group
With his visit to Continassa, John Elkann sent a strong message of closeness to all of Juventus. The moment is rather delicate, the team was even pleased by the fans in the last match against Bologna because the results are not in line with the expectations at the beginning of the season. However, from the owners there has come a strong signal of confidence in the work that Thiago Motta and Cristiano Giuntoli have been carrying out since last summer, with concepts that go beyond the current moment of the year and rather focus on the path taken in recent months. The dialogue between Elkann and the key men of Continassa – namely Thiago Motta, Cristiano Giuntoli and Maurizio Scanavino – can be summarized in three key words that indicate the way and consolidate what has been done so far: compactness, esteem and opportunity.
COMPACTNESS
—
Elkann presented himself at Continassa to convey the unity with which this moment must be lived, in which everyone must give something more to face and overcome the difficulties that exist. He said it not only to the coach, so that he could pass it on to the players, but evidently also to the technical director, to make his message reach the entire Juventus sporting area, and also to the CEO, so as to involve all the women and men who work in the club with any other corporate role. Internal unity must be the basic principle to emerge strongly from this phase in which difficulties have hindered the progress on the pitch and – consequently – also in the rankings of the various competitions in which Juventus is protagonist.
ESTEEM
—
In Elkann’s words, on the sidelines of training on the eve of the next Champions League match, all the esteem towards Thiago Motta came out: for how the coach has continued to work in recent weeks, never looking for alibis or supports in the absences (yet those that do not depend on the technical work – of Bremer, Cabal and Koopmeiners – had a negative impact on the seasonal progress) to justify the results or performances far from expectations. The Juve coach remained focused on his daily work, trying to find solutions and always creating the conditions to achieve the best possible results, even when he didn’t succeed. Such pure handling of responsibility earned him his first public recognition from the owners.
OPPORTUNITY
—
Juve is going through a complicated phase of the season and what is coming is certainly a difficult match, on paper the most complex of the Champions League calendar. However, Elkann, renewing his faith in the work that the entire technical area has been carrying out since the beginning of the season to best develop the new cycle, conveyed the idea of experiencing the match against Manchester City as a great opportunity for growth, to measure how point is the black and white path. What will make the difference in the next 90 minutes – and evidently beyond – will above all be the attitude on the pitch, which will have to be faithful to the historical values of the club so as to allow the fans – even those who lost patience in the last match of championship – to be able to recognize themselves in the team.
