The Al-Assad family, which ruled Syria for more than 50 years, has gone into exile in Russia.
The last bloody dictator of the family Bashar al-Assad was ousted from power on Sunday, and already efforts are being made to remove even the last references to the hated tyrant from the country.
Naturally, the Syrian futsal team also plays an important role in that task.
It announced on Monday that the color of the team’s kit will change from red to green, which is considered the color of the holy and heavenly in Islam.
– This is a new game outfit. It is a historic change in Syrian sports, which is finally free from nepotism and corruption, the federation’s official Facebook page says.
Red was the color of the Baath party led by al-Assad, so it is natural that it no longer evokes sympathy.
Syria is ranked 95th in the latest Fifa ranking. The closest European teams are Luxembourg (92nd) and Belarus (98th).
In 2023, Syria advanced to the second round of the Asian Championship for the first time in its history. In the quarterfinals, however, it fell to Iran in a penalty shootout.
