Sports director still in good spirits

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim hopes to be able to keep high-flyer Tom Bischof beyond his contract, which expires next summer, despite the growing desires. “In the end you know that there are many options when such a great talent is a free player in six months,” said sports director Andreas Schicker after the 1-1 draw against SC Freiburg. FC Bayern is reportedly interested in Bischof. Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart and RB Leipzig are also said to be interested in him.

“Nevertheless, I think he also knows what he has at TSG. “You can see how he’s blossoming,” said Schicker. Hoffenheim have not yet managed to retain the 19-year-old, who has been playing for TSG since he was ten, beyond June 30, 2025. Bischof made his Bundesliga debut under Sebastian Hoeneß in 2022 at the age of 16 years, eight months and 19 days. In TSG’s club history, Bischof is the youngest player to be deployed; only Youssoufa Moukoko and Paul Wanner are ahead of him in the league (statistics). In the last round, however, he was hardly used after the winter break and had to play for a while in the U23. This season he is one of the few top performers for the struggling Kraichgauer team. He scored his second goal against Freiburg.
“I think I’m in a really good mood and I’m enjoying football,” said Bischof. When asked about a possible move, he explained: “I’m absolutely just concentrating on football right now. I’ll ignore it completely. I think you can see that on the pitch too. You read it, but I don’t think about it.” When will a decision be made? “Let’s see,” he replied, smiling. In the TM interview in autumn 2023, the Aschaffenburg native patiently emphasized that he wanted to “first concentrate on the here and now and give everything to help Hoffenheim”.

“I’m really happy when he performs like that,” said Schicker. The issue of contracts does not concern Bishop as much as the outside world believes. “I think he’s doing a great job. The parents and management are also doing very well,” added the Austrian. “We are constantly in discussions. I’m still in good spirits that we can do it.”
Bischof is positioned in the midfield center and pulls the strings in the TSG game. Both Pellegrino Matarazzo and Christian Ilzer, who recently took over, rely on the DFB junior, who received the Fritz Walter Gold Medal in October. Afterwards, in an interview with the Hoffenheim club, he said he had “grown up”. Working with a mental trainer helps him, among other things. Bishop is currently valued at 3.5 million euros, and a new high is expected in the upcoming Bundesliga update on December 20th.
