Around 10:30 p.m., the police received a report that someone had been shot near the railway bridge between Javastraat and Eerste van Swindenstraat. Officers found someone seriously injured at the scene.
About half an hour after the first report, when an attempt was made to resuscitate the victim, it became clear that the person had died. Nothing is known about the identity of the victim at this time.
The area is currently cordoned off. A police helicopter was deployed in the search for the perpetrator.
It was previously reported on this site that it was a shooting. A police spokesperson now emphasizes that it is not yet entirely clear whether the victim was actually shot or died in some other way. The cause of death is currently under investigation at the scene.
