Within the framework of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Chamber of Road Software Companies (CECAITRA)its president, Bernardino Garciahighlighted the advances in road safety achieved in the last ten years in Argentina. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO)the country reduced the mortality rate from road accidents by 44%, going from 63 deaths per 100,000 vehicles in 2013 to 35 in 2023.
Progress and challenges in road safety
During the event, García highlighted the importance of controls and technology to achieve this reduction:
- Impact of controls: “Without controls, 11,200 lives would have been lost in 2023”he noted, putting the progress made into perspective.
- Road education as a central axis: García advocated for the incorporation of mandatory driver’s education for future drivers, emphasizing that vehicles can become weapons if traffic rules are not respected.
The president of CECAITRA also urged to strengthen the technological resources of the National Road Safety Agency. As he explained, the necessary investment could be assumed by the private sector: “We have offered to make the investments required to guarantee control on all routes in the country”he highlighted.
Recognitions on the anniversary of CECAITRA
The celebration included tributes to entities and personalities who have worked for road safety:
APTTA: The Association of Traffic and Transportation Journalists of Argentina received recognition for its career, represented by its founder, Ernesto Arriaga.
Yellow Stars: The organization dedicated to the memory of victims of road accidents was recognized for its work, with Teresa Mellano, one of its leaders, as a representative at the event.

The results of the last decade represent significant progress in the fight against road accidents.a problem that the WHO considers a pandemic.
