FC Bayern is having a harder time against Heidenheim than many expected. In the end we still managed to win.
FC Bayern seems to have digested the loss in the DFB Cup against Bayer Leverkusen during the week for the time being. On Saturday there was a clear 4-2 win against Heidenheim.
Dayot Upamecano (18th) gave Bayern the lead. Mathias Honsak equalized after the start of the second half (50th). After the goals from Jamal Musiala (56th) and Leon Goretzka (84th), it looked like a clear Bayern victory until Niklas Dorsch (85th) sent the record champions into shock once again. Jamala Musiala then made everything clear (90th).
“We know what our task is. The team is also very strong mentally,” said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany before the start of the game on Sky. In order to react positively to the bitter 0-1 loss in the DFB Cup round of 16 against Bayer Leverkusen with the red card for captain Neuer, he initially relied on rotation. Kompany offered five new guys, “fresh guys,” as he said.
These included starting eleven returnees Aleksandar Pavlovic in midfield and starting eleven debutant Daniel Peretz, who replaced Neuer as in the cup. The Israeli remained largely unemployed in goal and was unable to prevent the goals conceded.
The game was largely a run by Bayern against a Heidenheim defensive block that didn’t crumble. This was also due to Leroy Sané, who played conspicuously and finished with his foot and head several times. But it wasn’t the first time that the national player lacked the effectiveness that characterizes top scorer Kane or Musiala, who this time was the joker.
Kompany gave the latter a break, at least partially. Kompany explained that the 21-year-old was “very tired” after the strenuous week of top games against Paris Saint-Germain, Dortmund and Leverkusen.
So the attractive youngster comparison between Musiala and Paul Wanner was initially canceled. Musiala then won it. The 18-year-old Wanner, on loan to Hoffenheim from Bayern, wanted to showcase his great skills in the sold-out Allianz Arena. But nothing came of it: the fine technician was almost exclusively occupied with defensive tasks in his own half.
After 64 minutes it was over for Wanner. Heidenheim’s coach Frank Schmidt had previously spoken specifically with the youngster about the special game constellation in Munich. “Paul is 18. What is happening to this young person is crazy.” It remains to be seen whether Wanner will become a Musiala.
