She was out for almost a year, now Alexandra Popp is back. The national player was on the pitch when her VfL Wolfsburg won against Freiburg – after a long injury break. The 31-year-old is now hoping for more.
The German national team captain Alexandra Popp from VfL Wolfsburg has made her comeback in the Bundesliga after a ten-month injury break. The 31-year-old was even in the starting line-up when her team made it 4-1 on Sunday. This also increases Popp’s chances of her hoped-for participation in the European Championships in England in July.
The 2016 Olympic champion suffered a cartilage tear in her knee in April 2021 in the game at MSV Duisburg. After the subsequent operation, she fought back, but had to undergo another small operation at the end of January.
“If you’re right back in the starting XI, I think that says a lot about how we see Poppi,” said coach Tommy Stroot. You worked it out extremely. “From day one, when she was allowed to train with us again, there was an energy and power that just helps every team.”
