Next steep bankruptcy: Coach Korkut wobbles at Hertha

Berlin (AP) – Hertha BSC largely switched to mute after the next bitter bankruptcy. Unlike in the past few weeks, there was no media round with coach Tayfun Korkut the day after the 1: 4 against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Bundesliga club, which is in danger of relegation.

Managing director Fredi Bobic also did not comment publicly after the home defeat against his ex-club. Signs that indicate Korkut’s coaching chair is wobbling significantly.

For the regular press conference before the away game in Mönchengladbach (Saturday, 6.30 p.m.) on Thursday, the club announced Korkut as a participant together with Bobic. The managing director wants to speak to the media beforehand on Tuesday.

No win, just two points, 6:23 goals: The capital club’s balance sheet in the second half of the season is getting worse from week to week. “I’ve been here for a few weeks now and we haven’t won a game yet. That pisses me off too much,” said winter newcomer Marc Oliver Kempf on Sky. “Everyone here has to be pissed off enough to work their ass off and take three points home. Everyone has to understand that and not just walk around here larifari and get shot 4-1 again.”

“zero point zero satisfied”

And unlike in the last few weeks, when those responsible for Korkut and Bobic referred to the good phases of the Hertha game despite bad results, this was hardly possible after the performance against Frankfurt. In almost every respect, the Hessians were superior to the Berliners. “As the main person responsible for the game, I can of course be satisfied in no time,” said Korkut after the game, and Hertha posted a video of the statement on Twitter.

“I’m disappointed, I’m angry,” said the 47-year-old. He had to let the game sink in first. “We had big plans before the game and ultimately didn’t get it on the pitch,” said the 47-year-old Turk, who has only been training at Hertha since the end of November. “Not good enough” was the performance. On the TV microphone, however, he confirmed that he wanted to continue at Hertha.

It is extremely questionable whether he will have the opportunity to do so for a long time to come. Although Bobic had his back at Sport1 last Sunday, that was before the bloodless and turbulent performance against Frankfurt. Hertha is on the relegation place, is in the middle of a relegation battle like in the previous season and is only one point ahead of 17th place.

Dardai with a better record

But if Korkut has to go, the pressure on Bobic will increase significantly. After all, the Turk was his candidate, whom he brought in more than three years after his last short-term engagement at VfB Stuttgart as the successor to club legend Pal Dardai. Under Dardai they still had 14 points in 13 games this season, under Korkut it’s nine out of twelve games.

Bobic had also rebuilt the squad bit by bit over the summer and winter. With all the corona-related financial restrictions, he now has to put up with the question of why only a seasoned Bundesliga professional, Kempf, was brought in in winter. The South Korean Dogjun Lee, for example, was in the starting XI for the first time against Frankfurt, but as in his previous appearances he still seemed overwhelmed by the level of the Bundesliga.

Anger and malice at Hertha erupted from the ranks on Saturday, and shouts of “Korkut out” could also be heard. “It’s part of it, I’ve been in the business for a long time,” said Korkut.
